Heaven Sent

Proving that nothing compares to a model on the cover of a fashion magazine, are the latest selection of covers from four of my preferred publications; W, The Last Magazine, Russh and Purple. The word iconic springs to mind at first glance of W Magazine's March 2012 issue featuring Kate Moss captured in a heavenly robe and veil by Steven Klein. Fellow veteran Malgosia Bela looks every bit the natural beauty with minimal hair and makeup for the cover of the Last Magazine shot by Josh Olins. Shutterbug Terry Richardson assembles a trio of dynamic models Aymeline Valade, Saskia de Brauw and Daria Strokous for Purple Magazine. And last but not least, Aussie publication Russh shows plenty of love for model Mirte Maas lensed by Hugh Lippe.

Compulsive Viewing

Vogue Italia brings out the closet home shopper in us all with a satirical tongue-in-cheek editorial for the January 2012 issue featuring a cast of established models. Steven Meisel shoots Joan Smalls, Sigrid Agren, Natasha Poly, Daria Strokous, Caroline Trentini, Karlie Kloss and Gertrud Hegelund in the Spring/Summer 2012 collections from Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Versace and others. The juxtaposition of the screen blurbs, the plastic fantastic QVC presenters and the straight off the runway garments injects this editorial with a dose humour that is so bad it's good.

Givenchy's Next Move

Riccardo Tisci continues to enthral with his latest ten piece couture collection for Givenchy featuring an inspired cast of models. It takes a unique group of women to be able to pull off the studded nose rings and wreath-like hoop earrings which adorned the model's faces. Veteran models Kristen McMenamy, Stella Tenant and Ana Claudia Michels are joined by current top models Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Valerija Kelava and Daria Strokous, alongside relative newcomers Zuzanna Bijoch and Kati Nescher. Set in what looks to be a school gym with basket ball equipment, the models look nothing short of sensational in the contrasting surrounds.

Dream Team

American Vogue ups the ante for its September issue with an incredible cast of models assembled for a Steven Meisel editorial. Veterans Caroline Trentini, Coco Rocha, Raquel Zimmermann and Jourdan Dunn mash it up with relative newcomers Fei Fei Sun, Mirte Maas, Arizona Muse and Daria Strokous. The spread entitled "Playing to Type" features the Meisel's favourite faces in a myriad of looks based on five distinct personalities; the Romantics, the Modernists, the Artisans, the Bourgeoisie and the Subversives. With styling by Grace Coddington and hair and make-up courtesy of Guido Palau and Pat McGrath, it's no wonder this editorial delivers on every level.
