In Flight

America's sweetheart Karlie Kloss continues her ascent up the supermodel ladder with an exhilarating editorial appearance in the March edition of Paris Vogue. Lensed by master photographer Hans Feurer and with styling by Marie Chaix, Kloss looks primed for take-off showcasing the latest in high street sports wear and eye-catching accessories. Feurer's signature photographic style is instantly recognisable, due to the use of natural light and dynamic movement in an outdoors setting. Throughout his prolific career, Feurer's imagery has appeared in British Vogue, French Elle, US Vogue, Vogue China, i-D Magazine and Paris Vogue. With Emmanuelle Alt at the helm of Paris Vogue, Feurer's career has experienced somewhat of a resurgence with multiple Paris Vogue editorials over the past year featuring the likes of Joan Smalls, Sasha Pivovarova and Anja Rubik. Kloss' athletic prowess and emotional range is a perfect compliment to Feurer's lens.

Beauty is Diverse

Peter Lindbergh celebrates the beauty of diversity with a vibrant editorial for the March edition of US Vogue featuring an all star cast of models. Veteran model Karolina Kurkova teams up with faces of the moment, Joan Smalls, Liu Wen, Kasia Struss, Cara Delevigne and Fei Fei Sun sporting a panoply of bold head-turning prints. Whether it be in an editorial or a runway show, the wonderful combination of iconic faces, current stars and newbies, adds a freshness and element of surprise which I love. The eclectic mix of models combined with the extraordinary talent of Lindbergh and the styling genius of Tabitha Simmons make for an editorial which enthrals and delights.

Alexander Wang's All Star Cast

What do Maria Bradley, Aymeline Valade, Britt Maren, Mirte Maas, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Raquel Zimmermann all have in common? Well, they were all marked for success by designer Alexander Wang who selected each model previously to open for his collections. With all eyes firmly cast on Wang's  Fall/Winter 2012 show on Saturday, Danish newcomer Nadja Bender emerged in opening slot, as the model who will be most coveted for the season ahead.

As is the case at Alexander Wang, the show's line-up consisted of an all-star mix of newcomers, established models and iconic faces. Nineties supermodels Shalom Harlow, Gisele Bundchen, Karolina Kurkova, Carmen Kass, Querelle Jansen, Frankie Rayder and Elise Crombez were joined by the current generation of stars; Abbey Lee Kershaw, Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Karmen Pedaru, Jourdan Dunn, Aymeline Valade and Liu Wen. Amongst such a stellar line-up of talent, a new generation of models emerged from the fray unscathed. Lara Mullen, Maria Bradley, Kati Nescher, Ava Smith, Josefien Rodermans, Laura Kampman, and Nadja Bender looked right at home amongst the seasoned pros.

Compulsive Viewing

Vogue Italia brings out the closet home shopper in us all with a satirical tongue-in-cheek editorial for the January 2012 issue featuring a cast of established models. Steven Meisel shoots Joan Smalls, Sigrid Agren, Natasha Poly, Daria Strokous, Caroline Trentini, Karlie Kloss and Gertrud Hegelund in the Spring/Summer 2012 collections from Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Versace and others. The juxtaposition of the screen blurbs, the plastic fantastic QVC presenters and the straight off the runway garments injects this editorial with a dose humour that is so bad it's good.

The Five Faces of Calvin Klein

Proving that diversity is the key to attracting consumer dollars, Calvin Klein enlists the talents of five supermodels for its Spring/Summer 2012 campaigns. Dutch bombshell Lara Stone returns as the enigmatic face for Calvin Klein Collection alongside male model Tyson Ballou lensed by dynamic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Stone partners up with Chinese model Liu Wen for ck Calvin Klein shot again by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. English rose Lily Donaldson plays in the sun with Danny Beauchamp for Calvin Klein swimwear captured by Sebastian Kim. Last but not least, Stone scores a trifecta teaming up with German native Toni Garrn, Puerto Rican beauty Joan Smalls and Myles Crosby to produce plenty of sizzle for Calvin Klein Jeans again with Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott at the helm. It's a delight to see Smalls landing her first Calvin Klein campaign and also to witness the return of the Garrn who has yet to realise her full modelling potential.

The Power of Persistence

Karl Lagerfeld enlists the exceptional modelling talents of Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw for the Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 campaign. Combining pure physical strength, grace and beauty, de Brauw and Smalls are a vision of elegance as they pose on various gymnastic apparatus set amidst the picturesque landscape of the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc on the Cote d'Azur. The serene-like poses held by de Brauw and Smalls are a testament to the resilience and determination of the two models who are now only just hitting their stride professionally as models following years in the industry.

Smalls who has modelled since 2007, spent her early modelling days posing for catalogue clients such as Nordstrom. de Brauw's early forays into modelling in 1996 left her unfulfilled personally and professionally, leading her to focus instead on her education. In 2010, de Brauw decided to give modelling another shot based on the encouragement of a friend who happened to be a make-up artist. Both Smalls and de Brauw received the masterstroke of approval from designer Riccardo Tisci who cast the models to appear in the Givenchy presentations and have not looked back since.
