In Flight

America's sweetheart Karlie Kloss continues her ascent up the supermodel ladder with an exhilarating editorial appearance in the March edition of Paris Vogue. Lensed by master photographer Hans Feurer and with styling by Marie Chaix, Kloss looks primed for take-off showcasing the latest in high street sports wear and eye-catching accessories. Feurer's signature photographic style is instantly recognisable, due to the use of natural light and dynamic movement in an outdoors setting. Throughout his prolific career, Feurer's imagery has appeared in British Vogue, French Elle, US Vogue, Vogue China, i-D Magazine and Paris Vogue. With Emmanuelle Alt at the helm of Paris Vogue, Feurer's career has experienced somewhat of a resurgence with multiple Paris Vogue editorials over the past year featuring the likes of Joan Smalls, Sasha Pivovarova and Anja Rubik. Kloss' athletic prowess and emotional range is a perfect compliment to Feurer's lens.

Karlie's Gloss

Karlie Kloss continues her reign as the leading model of her generation with a smouldering cover and editorial for Australian Vogue's March 2012 issue. Shot by Kai Z Feng, Kloss sports sultry, slicked wet tresses and scarlett red lips. Spring is in the air as Kloss dons the latest pastel prints from collections by Louis Vuitton, Prada, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte and Chanel. I have been suitably impressed by the quality of editorials that Australian publications including Vogue, Harper Bazaar and Russh have been producing over the past few years. Top notch international models, fashions straight off the catwalks of Milan, New York, Paris and London interspersed with local labels, and impeccable photography and styling. One thing's for sure, I'll be stocking up on some Australian glossies when I head home for two weeks to escape the tail end of the European Winter.

Compulsive Viewing

Vogue Italia brings out the closet home shopper in us all with a satirical tongue-in-cheek editorial for the January 2012 issue featuring a cast of established models. Steven Meisel shoots Joan Smalls, Sigrid Agren, Natasha Poly, Daria Strokous, Caroline Trentini, Karlie Kloss and Gertrud Hegelund in the Spring/Summer 2012 collections from Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Versace and others. The juxtaposition of the screen blurbs, the plastic fantastic QVC presenters and the straight off the runway garments injects this editorial with a dose humour that is so bad it's good.

Cover Girls

I've got to say that I am a sucker for a great cover shot. Give me a gorgeous cover with a beautiful model as subject and I will gladly purchase a magazine without even peeking at its content. December 2012 is shaping up to be a particularly festive period, with a  slew of innovative covers featuring models hitting the newsstands. Kate Moss channels David Bowie for Paris Vogue, Karlie Kloss continues her winning streak for French Numéro, newcomer Marique Schimmel goes Indie for the hip Aussie publication Russh and Lindsey Wixson is Muse's December Golden Girl. For me, models and photographers have always played an integral role in fashion magazine's identity. I remember the days when the names of photographers such as Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, Herb Ritts, Peter Lindbergh, Gilles Bensimon and Steven Meisel were synonymously tied in with specific publications. I stopped purchasing US Harpers Bazaar (post-Liz Tilberis) and W Magazine when the covers began to resemble the latest cover of In Style. These days I anticipate instead, the arrival of the latest issues of publications including Paris and Italia Vogue, French Numéro, Russh and i-D.

Give into Temptation

Christmas has come early for Karlie Kloss, who rounds up the year posing alongside actor Eddie Redmayne for US Vogue's December 2011 issue. Kloss oozes sex appeal in the Mario Testino lensed editorial whilst retaining the sophisticated, high fashion allure which has made her a firm favourite at US Vogue. You can rest assured that 2012 has big things in store for Ms Kloss and I'm hedging all bets on a pair of wings and a solo US Vogue cover.

The Graduate

Karlie Kloss completes her transition from top model to fully-fledged supermodel with the December issue of Vogue Italia. Kloss, who turned nineteen this year, appears on the Steven Meisel lensed cover and in an accompanying editorial which features the formerly wholesome model embracing a decidedly more sexual persona. Kloss appears completely nude in the riveting editorial, capping of a year which has seen her posing provocatively alongside bestie Jourdan Dunn for i-D Magazine, shedding her top for Mario Testino in Allure, and stealing the limelight at the Victoria's Secret runway show. Kloss has been working out with a personal trainer over the past six months and the results are clearly evident with Kloss showcasing her toned physique and ripped abdominals before Meisel's lens.

Kloss has steadily buillt her profile as a high fashion runway and editorial model over the past few years and is no doubt looking to extend her commercial reach by upping the ante on the sex appeal stakes. Smart move on the part of her management team at Next who are carefully mapping out Kloss' every move to ensure her longevity in the ever fickle world of modelling.
