Beauty is Diverse

Peter Lindbergh celebrates the beauty of diversity with a vibrant editorial for the March edition of US Vogue featuring an all star cast of models. Veteran model Karolina Kurkova teams up with faces of the moment, Joan Smalls, Liu Wen, Kasia Struss, Cara Delevigne and Fei Fei Sun sporting a panoply of bold head-turning prints. Whether it be in an editorial or a runway show, the wonderful combination of iconic faces, current stars and newbies, adds a freshness and element of surprise which I love. The eclectic mix of models combined with the extraordinary talent of Lindbergh and the styling genius of Tabitha Simmons make for an editorial which enthrals and delights.

Paradise Found

Riccardo Tisci delivers another stunning haute couture collection for Givenchy with ten looks inspired by Paradise. In his own words Tisci's focus for this collection were "Purity, lightness and fragility", hence the heavenly gowns constructed from silk tulle and gauzy lace, painstakingly embellished with hand curled feathers, tiger's eye pearls and silvery grey caviar beads.

Tisci's dreamy couture vision was projected by a celestial cast of models including Iselin Steiro, Kasia Struss, Joan Smalls, Izabel Goulart, Saskia de Brauw, Daphne Groeneveld, Zuzanna Bijoch, Maria Carla Boscono, Valeryia and Caroline Trentini. Tisci's eclectic mix of established faces and newly appointed stars of tomorrow will no doubt have a casting directors and magazine editors paying close attention.

The New Wave

Viva! Moda pays homage to Peter Lindbergh's iconic American Vogue "Wild at Heart" shoot featuring the original supermodels from the early nineties, in a new editorial celebrating Poland's top models. Anja Rubik, Jac Jagaciak, Anna Jagodzinska, Kasia Struss and Magdalena Frackowiak brave the urban elements for a series of sensational solo and group shots. As with the original Lindbergh editorial, Rubik, Jagaciak et al., look ready to take on the mean streets of New York wearing tiny black mini-dresses paired with leather jackets and strappy heels. Photographer Cameron Krone magically captures the individual beauty and allure of each model whilst bring a contemporary feel to the editorial.

Make or Break

The casting for BCBG Max Azria drew an impressive line-up of over 500 model hopefuls who were sent through their paces under the watchful eye of casting director Russell Marshall. Three shows are cast for the BCBG group, namely BCBG, Max Azria and Herve Leger. Industry pundits can rely on the BCBG shows to forecast the most promising new models for the season ahead. Models of the moment; Arizona Muse, Celine Van Amstel, Andie Arthur, Linnea Regnander, and Samantha Gradoville, all appeared in BCBG's Spring/Summer 2011 show last season.

The lead up to the shows can prove to be an arduous time for models, often spent running to and from castings and fittings with little time to stop to refuel. BCBG shows a little love by providing survival kits at it's castings, complete with snacks, water, beauty products and tips to stay healthy throughout the runway season.

Judging by the images below, this could well be the season that the fashion industry embraces diversity. Spotted at the BCBG casting were an eclectic mix of models; Ajak Deng, Danica Magpantay, Crystal Renn, Samantha Gradoville, Hailey Clauson, Ornelia Edwards, Betty Adewole, Alice Burdeu, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth.
