Heaven Sent

Proving that nothing compares to a model on the cover of a fashion magazine, are the latest selection of covers from four of my preferred publications; W, The Last Magazine, Russh and Purple. The word iconic springs to mind at first glance of W Magazine's March 2012 issue featuring Kate Moss captured in a heavenly robe and veil by Steven Klein. Fellow veteran Malgosia Bela looks every bit the natural beauty with minimal hair and makeup for the cover of the Last Magazine shot by Josh Olins. Shutterbug Terry Richardson assembles a trio of dynamic models Aymeline Valade, Saskia de Brauw and Daria Strokous for Purple Magazine. And last but not least, Aussie publication Russh shows plenty of love for model Mirte Maas lensed by Hugh Lippe.

Perfect Match

Nineties supermodels Shalom Harlow and Amber Valletta reunite for the first time in over a decade for the January 2012 issue of American Vogue. Photographer Steven Klein's stunning imagery illustrates why Harlow and Valletta remain today two of the most compelling faces in fashion. The celebrated duo emerged on the modelling scene in the early nineties riding on the wave of the success of the original supers and were photographed together habitually by the likes of Steven Meisel, Paolo Roversi and Patrick Demarchelier for US Harpers Bazaar and the British, Italian and American editions of Vogue. Valetta's blonde, sunny disposition and earthy, ethereal-like beauty were the perfect antithesis to Harlow's exotic, mysterious gypsy-like allure. The pair would become steadfast best friends and their contrasting beauty and personalities served as a source of inspiration for a generation of photographers, designers and stylists.

Dolce's Girls

Stefano Gabbana and Dolce Domenico opt for multiple girl casts for their D&G and Dolce Gabbana Fall/Winter 2011 campaigns. Super photographer Mario Testino shoots an eclectic mix of new faces for D&G's vibrant and youth-oriented campaign starring Tao Okamoto, Aiste Kliveckaite, Marique Schimmel and Melodie Monrose. Shot in a New York subway tunnel, the diversity of the cast of models aptly refects New York's populace.

Continuing on its Fall/Winter 2011 androgynous boy meets girl theme, Dolce Gabbana's campaign lensed by Steven Klein, features Isabeli Fontana, Jac Jagaciak, Liu Wen, Maryna Linchuk, Constance Jablonski and Kate King alternately dressed as men and women. Wen, King and Jagaciak look super cute posing tomboyishly in pants, suspender belts, singlets and bowler hats.

Winning Streak

Dutch model Lara Stone weaves an intoxicating web of seduction and intrigue in an editorial for the July issue of US Vogue. Peter Lindbergh captures Stone, Frida Gustavsson and actor Alexander Skarsgard in a torrid love triangle set amidst a back drop of glamorous 1940s film noir chic encapsulated by looks from the Fall collections. Styled by Grace Coddington in ensembles from Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Rochas and Yves Saint Laurent, Stone combines an air of innocence and seduction in her leading role as femme fatale.

Stone is fast becoming a firm favourite at US Vogue, having also been featured in multiple editorials for the April and May 2011 editions photographed by Mario Testino, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Patrick Demarchelier and Steven Klein respectively. As a model, Stone is just beginning to show her extensive range and versatility. Stone exhibits a worldliness, elegance and refinement that is helping to define her as more of a character model. It is this rare quality that makes Stone memorable and that will enable her to reach true iconic status.

Dangerous Moves

Argentinian beauty Dafne Cejas has been on my radar since she emerged on the modelling scene as a worldwide exclusive at the Givenchy Fall/Winter 2010 show. Cejas has an androgynous-like beauty which is disarmingly unconventional and rare. Blessed with high sculpted cheek bones, a low brow, angular features and heavy set eye brows, Cejas' beauty is unique and original. It comes as no surprise then that Cejas' few select editorial appearances have included blue chip publications such as Paris Vogue, V magazine, Vogue Italia, i-D Magazine, LOVE, Numero and Metal Magazine. What I love about Cejas is that her beauty challenges the modelling industry's notions of beauty. Cejas is no cookie cutter beauty, rather the symmetry of her face appears to be mere millimetres away from being deemed by some as non-photogenic, and yet she is an exquisite beauty. At only eighteen years and represented by Ford Models, Cejas is likely to make an indelible impact at the upcoming Spring/Summer collections in September.
