Timing is Everything

Eurasian model Mackenzie Hamilton was discovered at age fourteen in Vancouver, Canada at a local model talent search. Now aged twenty-one and represented by DNA Model Management, Hamilton has just come off the back of an impressive NYFW Fall/Winter 2012 season, appearing in a total of twelve shows. Hamilton is no stranger to the runway circuit, having previously walked for the likes of Christian Lacroix, Diane Von Furstenberg, Just Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab and Akris. The difference however this season is that Hamilton exudes a womanly confidence and self-assurance that was clearly evident at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Suno, Jenny Packham, and Zero + Maria Cornejo amongst others.

I first noticed Hamilton back in August 2008 when she was featured in V Magazine as part of DNA's line-up for the model powerhouse portfolio photographed by Sebastian Faena. The image was telling, as Hamilton all but faded into the background overshadowed by established models of the day like Doutzen Kroes, Maryna Linchuk and Agyness Deyn. Fast-forward to December 2011 and Hamilton popped up again in V's annual model powerhouse feature, only this time she stood out in front Alex Cayley's lens looking incandescent. The transformation was remarkable and the look in Hamilton's eyes foreshadowed a determination and knowing that she is ready for her moment in the spotlight. Hamilton is clearly genetically blessed with a dreamy complexion, exquisite bone structure and model perfect proportions. With a steely confidence now in place as the most valuable part of her arsenal, I'm gunning for Hamilton to truly make her mark at the Fall/Winter 2012 shows in Milan and Paris.

Casting Crisis

T Magazine went behind the scenes at castings for three of New York Fashion Week's biggest shows - 3.1 Phillip Lim, Altuzarra and Band of Outsiders. Booking a spot in any of the three line-ups for 3.1 Phillip Lim, Altuzarra and Band of Outsiders, guarantees a model maximum exposure and a berth that may potentially carry through to the shows in London, Paris and Milan. With casting directors Kannon Rajah at the helm for Altuzarra and whiz kid Daniel Peddle keeping a close eye on proceedings at 3.1 Phillip Lim and Band of Outsiders, every established model and newcomer worth talking about, was ready to be put through their paces.

Frontrunner

The Milan and Paris show circuits are notorious for being particularly tough markets for newcomers to crack. Twenty year old Karo Mrozkova however emerged from the fracas as the most coveted newcomer of the Spring/Summer 2012 season. With a staggering 50 shows to her credit, the luminous Czech beauty ticked all of the right boxes, gliding down the runways for the likes of BCBG Max Azria, Band of Outsiders, Carolina Herrera, Herve Leger, Theysken's Theory, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rodarte, Acne, Antonio Berardi, Jil Sander, Dolce Gabbana, DSquared, Just Cavalli, Lanvin and Chanel. Represented by Marilyn Model Management in New York, the statuesque 180 cm tall blond bombshell is a dead ringer for Hana Soukupova and Filippa Hamilton with a dash of Grace Kelly thrown in. I am certain that Mrozkova's classic blonde haired, blue eyed look will make her a frontrunner when it comes to casting campaigns for the season ahead.

Dancin' in the Streets

Russh's September issue confirms Aymeline Valade as my favourite model of the moment. Captured by photographer Will Davidson, Valade looks so exuberant and brimming full of joy as she wanders and dances around the streets of New York. Stylist Stevie Dance kits out Valade in an eclectic mix of bodysuits, tunics, pantsuits and top hats by the likes of Dries Van Noten, Dolce Gabbana, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Michael Kors, Collette Dinnigan and Josh Goot. Valade proves yet again that the combination of beauty, personality and womanly allure is precisely what the market place has been yearning for.
