Timing is Everything

Eurasian model Mackenzie Hamilton was discovered at age fourteen in Vancouver, Canada at a local model talent search. Now aged twenty-one and represented by DNA Model Management, Hamilton has just come off the back of an impressive NYFW Fall/Winter 2012 season, appearing in a total of twelve shows. Hamilton is no stranger to the runway circuit, having previously walked for the likes of Christian Lacroix, Diane Von Furstenberg, Just Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab and Akris. The difference however this season is that Hamilton exudes a womanly confidence and self-assurance that was clearly evident at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Suno, Jenny Packham, and Zero + Maria Cornejo amongst others.

I first noticed Hamilton back in August 2008 when she was featured in V Magazine as part of DNA's line-up for the model powerhouse portfolio photographed by Sebastian Faena. The image was telling, as Hamilton all but faded into the background overshadowed by established models of the day like Doutzen Kroes, Maryna Linchuk and Agyness Deyn. Fast-forward to December 2011 and Hamilton popped up again in V's annual model powerhouse feature, only this time she stood out in front Alex Cayley's lens looking incandescent. The transformation was remarkable and the look in Hamilton's eyes foreshadowed a determination and knowing that she is ready for her moment in the spotlight. Hamilton is clearly genetically blessed with a dreamy complexion, exquisite bone structure and model perfect proportions. With a steely confidence now in place as the most valuable part of her arsenal, I'm gunning for Hamilton to truly make her mark at the Fall/Winter 2012 shows in Milan and Paris.

A Star is Born

Chinese model Sui He is fast becoming one of the most coveted newcomers following a succession of sensational editorial appearances in V, Love and W magazine. In addition to that editorial trifecta, is Sui's limelight stealing cover appearance on Vogue China's 6th Anniversary issue lensed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and her star turn as the current face of Ralph Lauren's Fall/Winter 2011 campaign.

Born in Wenzhou, Sui has been modelling for four years and received her first major breakthrough at the Fall/Winter 2011 shows when she was selected by casting director Jennifer Starr to open for Ralph Lauren, making her the first model of Asian descent to do so. What followed was a Dries Van Noten exclusive in Paris and select runway appearances in Milan for  D&G, D'Squared, Costume National and Anteprima.

Sui has a face that is distinctly Eurasian in appearance and is blessed with the most sublime angular bone structure. What is fascinating about Sui is that she is able to morph from a delicate and elegant beauty to that of a harder-edged unconventional gothic type as evidenced in her most recent editorial appearances for Love and V magazine. It is this versatility along with Sui's undeniable exceptional beauty which will ensure her longevity in the fickle world of modelling.

A Sight to Behold

Vogue China's September issue makes a bold statement with its group cover shot of modelling's finest Asian talent. Photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin bring new meaning to the word sublime with their cover image featuring Sui He, Liu Wen, Ming Xi, Fei Fei Sun, Shu Pei Qin and veteran model Du Juan. It's no secret that I love seeing models brought together for the purposes of a cover shoot and Vogue China's most recent effort delivers with impeccable styling, breathtakingly beautiful models and a clear celebration of all things beautiful. This incredible assembly of established and up-and-coming Asian models affirms the notion that ethnicity in modelling need not be a passing fad.

Sensory Overload

French newcomer Aymeline Valade is fast becoming one of my favourite faces of the moment. Valade appears in two compelling editorials for Numero and Vogue China lensed respectively by Tom Munro and Camilla Akrans. Munro's feitsh inspired editorial for Numero, taps into Valade's sultry beauty and depicts her as a woman not afraid to show off her brazen sexuality. Aymeline's versatility as a model is demonstrated further as she reveals a softer, more winsome, romantic side for Vogue China's editorial. Akrans captures Valade in a sun dappled garden setting amidst cherry blossoms and hydrangeas. Valade looks simply divine wearing creations by Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Celine and Maison Martin Margiela.

Extreme Beauty

Twenty year old newcomer Carola Remer has the kind of extreme, jolting beauty that makes you sit up and take notice. Hailing from Germany and standing at 177 cm, Remer's face has amazingly angular features thanks to her impossibly high cheek bones, wide set eyes and square jawline. Remer has an exotic, other-wordly beauty that is hard to place. To me she looks like a cross between Magdalena Frackowiak and nineties model Tatiana Sorroko.

Remer's plans for a career in medicine were side-lined when a cousin sent her pictures into a modelling agency without her consent. Remer deferred her medical studies when the agency requested to meet with her and signed her on the spot. Now represented by One Management in New York, Remer had an impressive debut at the Fall/Winter 2011 shows appearing in a total of 27 shows including Tom Ford, Emilio Pucci, Hakaan and Yigal Azrouel. Remer debuted on the models.com chart of Top 50 models at position 43 and has had an impressive editorial response with appearances in US Harper's Bazaar with Glen Luchford, Self Service, Vogue China and Nippon Vogue with Daniel Jackson. With Remer's exquisite beauty and grace of movement, I expect appearances in Vogue Italia and Paris Vogue to follow suit.
