Timing is Everything

Eurasian model Mackenzie Hamilton was discovered at age fourteen in Vancouver, Canada at a local model talent search. Now aged twenty-one and represented by DNA Model Management, Hamilton has just come off the back of an impressive NYFW Fall/Winter 2012 season, appearing in a total of twelve shows. Hamilton is no stranger to the runway circuit, having previously walked for the likes of Christian Lacroix, Diane Von Furstenberg, Just Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab and Akris. The difference however this season is that Hamilton exudes a womanly confidence and self-assurance that was clearly evident at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Suno, Jenny Packham, and Zero + Maria Cornejo amongst others.

I first noticed Hamilton back in August 2008 when she was featured in V Magazine as part of DNA's line-up for the model powerhouse portfolio photographed by Sebastian Faena. The image was telling, as Hamilton all but faded into the background overshadowed by established models of the day like Doutzen Kroes, Maryna Linchuk and Agyness Deyn. Fast-forward to December 2011 and Hamilton popped up again in V's annual model powerhouse feature, only this time she stood out in front Alex Cayley's lens looking incandescent. The transformation was remarkable and the look in Hamilton's eyes foreshadowed a determination and knowing that she is ready for her moment in the spotlight. Hamilton is clearly genetically blessed with a dreamy complexion, exquisite bone structure and model perfect proportions. With a steely confidence now in place as the most valuable part of her arsenal, I'm gunning for Hamilton to truly make her mark at the Fall/Winter 2012 shows in Milan and Paris.

All In Her Strijd

Sixteen year old Dutch model Romee Strijd is being touted as the next big thing following an impressive debut at the Spring/Summer 2012 collections. The DNA model left all in her wake with an exclusive show list which included Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Balmain, Celine, Hakaan, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Jil Sander and Burberry Prorsum. The 178 cm willowy newcomer appeared in a total of 16 shows and was recently listed by COACD and style.com as one of the Top Ten Newcomers for the Spring/Summer 2012 season.

Blessed with golden flaxen hair, bee stung lips and an immaculate complexion, it is Strijd's impeccable runway swagger which has industry pundits in a spin. With editorial appearances in British Vogue lensed by Daniel Jackson and Paolo Roversi as well as a slated appearance in Love shot by Solve Sundsbø, all signs are pointing towards Strijd becoming one of the defining models of the next generation. Strijd recently appeared at the Calvin Klein Pre-Fall presentation and looks set to implode during her first New York Fashion week come February.

The Evolution of Bette Franke

Dutch model Bette Franke, who has been modelling since 2003, was the big surprise package of the Spring/Summer 2012 collections. Franke, a runway veteran at age twenty-two, left a gaggle of newcomers quivering in her wake during her, wait for it, 54 runway appearances for the likes of Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Chloé, Chanel, DSquared2, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Oscar de la Renta, Hermés, and Jil Sander amongst others.

Over the course of her modelling career, Franke has not only been a regular fixture on the international catwalk circuit but has also gained significant editorial exposure in publications including British Harpers Bazaar, Italian Flair, W, V Magazine and in the Japanese, British, German, Italian and French editions of Vogue. Campaign appearances throughout 2006 and 2007 for Hugo by Hugo Boss, Max & Co., Celine, Blumarine, Oscar de la Renta, cK Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Lacoste suggested that Franke would continue to ascend the rungs of the modelling ladder.

I have had my eye on Franke's evolution over the past eight years and have always thought of her as a beautiful, sweet looking kid. As happens all too often with models having started out so young, interest in Franke began to wane from 2008 and her editorial and show options slowly dwindled. In 2010, Franke took an extended break from the international show circuit only to reemerge at the Spring/Summer 2012 collections with a renewed vigour and a sensual, womanly allure that shed her in a completely new light.

Franke not only looks sensational but she also exudes a confidence and sense of knowing that perhaps this is now her time to fulfil her true potential. I am certain that in 2012, Franke will be turning up in blue chip editorials and campaigns everywhere as fashion editors, casting agents, stylists and photographers clamour for a piece of fashion's "newest" star.

When you're schmizing...

Discovered a little over a year ago, Cologne native Nur Hellmann possesses one of the most photogenic faces that I have seen for some time. The 180 cm tall newcomer made an auspicious debut at the Spring/Summer 2012 collections, illuminating the runways for Lake & Stars, Sass & Bide, Jasper Conran, Top Shop Unique, Erdem, Temperley London, Roksanda Ilincic, Martin Grant and Issey Miyake. Represented by DNA Models in New York, Hellmann's high forehead, perfectly symmetrical cheekbones and gorgeous caramel skin tone are reminiscent of a baby Tyra Banks. Hellmann is already proving her editorial mettle with appearances in US Glamour, Dazed & Confused, Qvest Magazine, Australian Marie Claire, and has graced the covers of Arise and Wallpaper Magazine. Hellmann status as one of the most coveted newcomers is set to implode with the sublime images lensed by Karim Sadli for the Akris Resort 2012 campaign.
