An Intimate View

Whatever your opinion may be of photographer Terry Richardson, there is no denying that he is one of the most influential and prominent figures in the worlds of modelling and fashion. Richardson's scope as a photographer can be witnessed in publications such as US Vogue, Vogue Paris, V Magazine, Vanity Fair, Harpers Bazaar, Purple, Industrie and i-D. Not surprisingly, Richardson's studio plays host to the who's who of modelling talent from iconic models Kate Moss, Daria Werbowry and Gisele Bundchen, to established stars Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen and Lara Stone, and to a slew of young hopefuls. A touch of Class

Pirelli enlists the remarkable artistic talents of Karl Lagerfeld and a cast of 21 models for it's Mythology themed 2011 calendar. The calendar features Lara Stone, Bianca Balti, Natasha Poly, Lakshmi Menon, Isabeli Fontana, Anja Kneller, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen, Elisa Sedanoui, Jeneil Williams, Iris Strubegger, Magdalena Frackowiak, Erin Wasson Daria Werbowry, Heidi Mount, Brad Kroenig, Garett Neff, Baptiste Giabiconi, Sebastian Jondeau, Brad Davies and actress Julianne Moore, each posing as different ancient Greek and Roman deities in varying states of undress.

At the press conference for the unveiling of the calendar, Lagerfeld surmises "I wanted to do something different. I looked at all the other calendars," he said, adding that his had a message "of timeless beauty and youth." The 36 photos selected for the calendar, depict 24 different subjects, including gods, heroes and myths. Lagerfeld's series of black and white images take on a distinctly artistic slant with an emphasis on sculpture and form. Lagerfeld creates a luminous three dimensional quality to the images by contrasting stark backgrounds with light carefully positioned on the model's bodies. The resulting images are insanely beautiful and a welcome departure from the salacious pin-up style nudity of previous years.

Legends of Fall

Runway-shy Claudia Schiffer has gone on record in an interview with Vogue UK as saying that "Designers are very clever at trying to persuade me to do it (fashion shows) each season and it's flattering that they do, but nothing would change my mind...Nothing, definitely." The recent Fall/Winter 2011 shows however saw the return of several other former catwalk godesses.

Supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Amber Valletta, all made return appearances to the runway at Louis Vuitton. Natalia Vodianova was seen at Givenchy and Hakaan, whilst Stella Tenant and Liya Kebede popped up at Balenciaga's Fall/Winter presentation. Carmen Kass showed off her moxie with a newly cropped bob at Michael Kors, Zac Posen and Isabel Marant, and Karolina Kurkova, Angela Lindvall, Erin Wasson and Isabeli Fontana also appeared in Michael Kors' runway extravaganza to celebrate his 30th year in the business.

Chandra North made a welcome return to the runway at Reed Krakoff, however it was fellow model Danielle Zinaich who stole the show. Zinaich, who burst onto the modelling scene in the late nineties, was ubiquitous, appearing at Hakaan, Balmain, Chanel, Reed Krakoff, Michael Kors, Emanuel Ungaro, VPL and Louis Vuitton. Zinaich's unique, unadulterated beauty made her the cool girl of the season.
